I’ve just wrapped up interviewing SBMRGE but before I release it, I want you to check out his tracks. Here’s my thoughts on track Black Sun and the EP ‘Masked’ which was released through Perth label Pilerats Records in 2014.

Black Sun is a track that was released about 5 months ago, and has a slightly different sound to the EP. Have you ever gone into a song and wonder where it got it’s title from? Well I do, and the first 15 seconds of this track answers that question. The start makes you feel like you’re just chilling under a big tree on a hot day listening to a soft electronic track. The 45 second mark was when I shut my eyes and just let the music take control. This is a killer track and I recommend starting here.

Masked is the first track on the EP and was released prior to the rest of the record. It gained downloads and fans from around the world in time for the EP to be released. Masked has a larger than life sound to it, where to get the real effect you need to put either headphones in or turn the bass up on your speakers. This song isn’t at all overpowering as it has a really mellow vibe to it. Masked will find a way to creep into your brain with those really soft vocals and sounds in the background.
Turn is to this EP, like Wednesday is to the working week. It has some deep layering and has some ridiculously cool beats floating in and out, following on from Masked, this track has a mellow vibe which is to be expected. The little taps of bass make it so easy to listen to, there’s definitely nothing to cringe about in this banger.

Glass Jaw is the final track on the EP. The start of this song reminds me of those people who can play with glass bottles, it’s such an interesting sound. As we progress through this one more layers are adding onto that original sound we heard early on, making it so much stronger. This track is another one that’ll just make you lose control of your body as it starts to float along to the music. There’s no subtle ending with this one, it goes out softly as if it’s just not ready to say goodbye.
There’s something about those little bursts of human sound in SBMRGE tracks that adds that extra layer of depth, making it that much easier to listen to. The EP’s sound just makes you want to close your eyes and float away. The SBMRGE tracks have so much going on in them that there’s never a spot sounding repetitive.
