With the announcement of The Last Time – A new single and tour, The Cherry Dolls look set to establish themselves in the Australian Indie line-up.

The Cherry Dolls are a Melbournian band that play 60’s style rock tunes. The 5 piece outfit announced a tour along Australia’s east coast this week, visiting NSW, Victoria and Queensland in a whirlwind tour.

Frontman Joshua Aubury has a dramatic, wailing tone to his voice across a track cluttered with soft riffs and upbeat drumming. As the opening single from their upcoming Wasted Pearls E.P. this track needed impact, poise and style. Image and aesthetic are casually, masterfully created in their videography and photography. The band gives itself an easy rockers vibe- all about cigarettes, nostalgia, white sand and beer cans.

Quite typically ‘The Last Time’ is an indie rock love story- about an ex, and about overcoming heartbreak. The track has a sweet sound with an underlying message that’s instantly relatable to all that have loved and lost. The song is well balanced, occupying a niche where it could be played in many different situations and find itself at home- equally as good when listened to on a road trip or round a table as on one’s own. Produced by The Delta Riggs’ Alex Markwell, The Last Time is more evidence of the growing cohesion, vibrancy and interconnectedness of the Australian Indie scene.

‘The Last Time’ can feel like a bare-bones song, or just another indie gig, but in reality I believe it is neither. It’s a well-versed genre, but through their work redefinition is achieved to at least some degree. This is largely due to their singer and the cohesion of the unit and its sound.

Tight, sharp and ready to play, The Cherry Dolls will appear across the east coast of Australia May 22 – June 13.
